The ‘Me, My Culture and NSW’ competition is hosted by Woke in partnership with Multicultural NSW and Sutherland Shire Council.

Topics

All entries must focus on the topics of celebrating diversity and different cultures and/or battling cultural stereotypes and racism.

Competitors can do this in a variety of ways, such as by sharing personal stories about their culture, their own experiences with racism or their family’s or friends' experience. Competitors can also talk about the harmful effects of racism and the importance of celebrating diversity as a whole.

Terms and Conditions

All competitors, by making a submission, agree to the competition’s terms and conditions.

​

General Guidelines

1) Competitors can enter the competition as individuals or as a team.

​

2) Competitors (including all team members) must attend a NSW high school and/or be aged 12-19 years old (in 2020) and live in New South Wales, Australia.

 

3) All competitors must complete the submission form (and attach their work to it), along with the permission to publish form (and the talent release form if applicable) before the 3rd of October 2020, 11:59 pm (AEST).

a) If competitors are entering as a team, each team member must fill out a form, ensuring that their work's title is the same.

4) Competitors can make multiple entries. They may enter more than once in the same category, or enter multiple categories if they wish to do so. 

a) If a competitor submits multiple entries to the same category, their entries can only receive one prize. 

i) A competitor cannot receive 1st and 2nd place in the same category.

b) If a competitor enters multiple categories, they can only receive one prize. 

i) A competitor cannot receive 1st place in the photography category and 2nd place in the film category. 

 

5) Entries must not promote violence, racism, homophobia, sexism, fascism and other derogatory or discriminatory views. Entries must not be defamatory or offensive to any individual. Entries must not showcase the consumption of drugs, smoking and/or alcohol. Entries must not portray any sexual images, intercourse and/or nudity.

a)The competition administrators and judges have the right to exclusively determine and disqualify entries that do not adhere to this requirement. 

b)The competition administrators hold the right to not notify participants that are disqualified.

 

Photography Entry Guidelines

​

1) Photographic entries of the ‘Me, My Culture and NSW’ competition can be submitted as a single photograph, a collection of photos or a collage.

 

2) The photo(s) can be in any form that a competitor sees fit (portrait, landscape, black & white, coloured, etc.)

​

3) The photo(s) must be either taken by the participant(s) or include the participant(s). 

a)If it is the latter, the photographer must be acknowledged and give written permission through the talent release form for their photo to be entered into the competition and published. 

​

4) If an entry includes a person(s) that has been photographed who is not a part of individual/team entry, said person(s) must have given written permission for the photo to be taken through the talent release form. 

a)Any person that has been photographed and is the one entering as an individual/team only needs to complete the permission to publish form and the submission form.

b) In the case of people under 18, parents/guardians must also give consent. 

 

5) Digital manipulation of photograph(s) is allowed but any and all software/techniques used must be acknowledged. Any digital manipulation must also be done by the participant(s).

6) Entries must be submitted with the written approval of parents and/or guardians if under 18 as can be seen in the permission to publish form.

​

Submission Format

Photographic entries must comply with the following format;

1)The photograph(s) must be submitted as a JPEG (.jpg). 

​

2)Individually, a photograph must be no larger than 1MB.

a) The winners and finalists will be asked to send their photo in their original size.

 

3)A collection of photos, as a whole, must be no larger than 3MB and should be uploaded as a single file in a zip folder.

   a) The winners and finalists will be asked to send their photos in their original size. 

​

4)The photograph(s) must not include watermarks or branding of any form.

​

5)Each entry must include a title.

​

6)Each entry must include a brief description (maximum 150 words) of the meaning behind the photograph(s).

 

Submission Date

 

1)All entries must be submitted by the 3rd of October 2020, 11:59 pm (AEST).

​

2)If technological difficulties occur which lead to competitors being unable to submit their entry before the date mentioned above, competitors must contact the competition administrators as soon as they are able to. 

a)They can contact administrators through ourwoke@gmail.com or by texting 0413336112. 

b)They can contact administrators by the 6th of October 2020, at the latest. 

c)Administrators will judge technological issues on a case by case basis. Administrators hold the right to reject the entry of any/all submissions made after the due date, even if the competitor has contacted administrators. 

 

Prizes

1)All winners (1st, 2nd or 3rd) from each category will receive a monetary prize. 

1st place winners will receive $300.

2nd place winners will receive $200.

3rd place winners will receive $100.

 

2)If the judges deem that in any category there are no suitable winner/s, no prize will be awarded in this category for this year. 

​

3)Winners will be contacted individually to organise a way for them to receive their monetary prize. 

​

4)Team and individual entries will receive the same prize. 

a)The monetary value of prizes will not differ if a team submission wins a prize.

b)If a team entry wins any monetary prize, competition administrators, Woke, Multicultural NSW and Sutherland Shire Council are not responsible for dividing this money amongst team members. 

​

5)All winning entries will be published on Woke’s website in a special edition.

 

Judging 

1) Competition administrators will appoint judges for each category.

​

2) There will be at least 2 judges for each category.

​

3) Judges will not be told the name of competitors. Judges will not know who has created the work that they are judging. Therefore, there will be no bias. 

​

4) Entries will be judged on how well they showcase our chosen issues of celebrating diversity and different cultures and battling cultural stereotypes and racism.

 

Plagiarism 

1)All entries must be the sole, original work of the competitor(s). By making a submission, competitors ensure that their entry is their sole, original work. 

a)Competition administrators, Woke, Multicultural NSW and Sutherland Shire Council are not liable for any work that is claimed to have been copyrighted.

b)Competitors will be held accountable if any copyright breaches occur.

2)The entry(s) must not have been sent to any previous or current competition.

Privacy

1)By making a submission, competitors agree to give Woke full publishing rights over their entry 

a)Entries can be shared on Woke’s website, social media and other platforms

b)The names (first and/or last)  of the winners and/or competitors will be published on Woke’s websites, social media and other platforms. 

i) Competitors can request for Woke to not publish their full name and/or the school they attend. Such requests should be made with their entry *.

 

2)The email, date of birth of competitors, phone number, address and other personal information shared with the administrators will be kept strictly confidential within the Woke's administration team.

​

3)Information such as cultural background, gender and place of study can be shared for reporting and research purposes with Multicultural NSW. 

 

Presentation of Prizes 

1)Prizes will be presented to the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) of each category at an awards ceremony (COVID-19 restrictions permitting).

​

2)The date and location of this awards night will be made available closer to the night.

​

3)Winners will be contacted individually to receive details about the awards ceremony.
